Diversity & Talent Management – breaking with stereotypical prejudices of women’s competence in handling technology
When it comes to technology (and related degrees and professions), prejudices prevent equal access for women, stereotypes have women be perceived as rather incompetent in handling them and the majority of men in the development of new technological products means that these are also primarily developed from their perspective – why though? In my talk I will discuss current scientific and economic findings on the relationship between gender and tech and how we can break with the corresponding biases.

Vita: In her position as Diversity Manager within the Diversity & Equal Opportunities Office, Dr. Alina Gales consults the Executive Vice President for Talent Management and Diversity, Prof. Dr. Claudia Peus, in strategic activities to advance the Technical University of Munich to an even more diverse and inclusive university and workplace. Here, she is responsible for the conception, evaluation and controlling of diversity measures for the TUM. Having studied in Mannheim, Amsterdam and Singapore, Alina Gales completed her PhD in Gender Studies in Engineering & Science at the TUM during which she was a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley in the USA. Next to her research interest in the mutual influence of technology and society with regards to women, she is passionate about biased Artificial Intelligence and gives presentations on the discriminatory factors of AI to audiences in corporate, higher education and civil society organizations.
