Impulse on Healthy Leadership – how to recognize and address psychological stress in yourself and others
Mental health problems have become a pressing issue. Next to excessive workload, leaders often feel unsure about how to respond to signs of poor psychological distress in their teams. To empower leaders and to promote a proactive approach to mental health, we will discuss different pathways through which leaders can effectively influence employee mental health. Finally, we outline boundaries of leaders’ responsibility and identify relevant stakeholders that provide further assistance.

Details zum/r Referent/in Dr. Anna Brzykcy
Vita: Anna is a systemic therapist, postdoctoral researcher, and Learning & Development Expert at the TUM Institute for LifeLong Learning. Since her doctorate at the University of St.Gallen, she has been part of large-scale projects linking leadership, diversity management, and (mental) health. Next to age or gender diversity, she considers mental health problems to be another diversity dimension that presents leaders and organization with massive challenges. At present, she develops and holds workshops on the role of leadership in dealing with mental health issues at work. Her research on stigma attached to mental health problems has appeared in relevant journals (Human Relations, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Personal Quarterly).
