Mo Asumang
Anti-racism expert and ambassador, founder of the association Mo:Lab e.V. for the promotion of dialogue and democracyBearer of The Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (2019)
Mo Asumang has dedicated herself to the topic of racism for years. This was triggered by a death threat from a neo-Nazi band „White Aryan Rebels“ who sang „Die Kugel ist für Dich, Mo Asumang“ in a song. This shock inspired Mo (2006) to make her directorial debut „Roots Germania“ (2007) and, after further research, the film ‘Die Arier’ (2014) about racists worldwide (both films nominated for the Grimme Prize). Her book „Mo und die Arier“.
(2016) became a Spiegel bestseller and, like the film, is important teaching material for the Federal Agency for Civic Education.
In addition to her artistic work, Mo has been visiting schools and universities worldwide since 2007, contributing her expertise as a keynote speaker and moderating panels. Mo boldly approaches the topic of racism from a new perspective.
She has recently founded the association Mo:Lab e.V., with which she trains people to become „dialogue ambassadors“ in workshops to give pupils/students and many democrats the tools to actively defend and stabilise our democracy at eye level, even at the margins.
Since 2023, Mo Asumang has held a top professorship of the Bavarian High-Tech Agenda as a visiting professor and teaches at the Munich Film Academy, HFF, interdisciplinary for the topic „Hybrid Narrative Form“. In 2024 Mo was „Harris Distinguished Visiting Professor“ at Dartmouth College in the USA and gave lectures at Massachusetts Institute of Technology MIT, Brown University, Williams College etc.
In 2019, Mo Asumang was honoured with the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany for her courage, democracy and anti-racism work.
