Thorsten Giersch

Editor in Chief
Markt und Mittelstand

The 43-year-old father of a young daughter loves personnel topics and lives for equality: As the editor-in-chief of Germany’s fourth-largest business medium, he works part-time. It is natural for him to take on 50% of the family work, including taking several weeks off for his child’s daycare familiarization.

For International Women’s Day 2023, Markt und Mittelstand released a special issue focused on women in leadership positions and explores diversity in-depth in their annual ESG issue in October. Additionally, Giersch is very active as a podcaster and on LinkedIn discussing these topics.

While studying journalism and economics, the Westphalian worked for radio and completed a traineeship at n-tv, where he stayed for six years as a business reporter and film editor. In 2008, the book lover moved to Handelsblatt, first as head of the company section and then as deputy editor-in-chief of the online department. Later, he also immersed himself deeply in the publishing industry and worked as a co-managing director. He expanded his management experience in the C-office of the Kienbaum consulting firm. However, journalism never let him go: Since August 2022, he has been the editor-in-chief of Markt und Mittelstand.
